Umbraco update: 2026 pricing, new UK office and more
Since we explored the takeaways from the 2025 Umbraco Codegarden keynote back in early July, there has been a handful of recent announcements from Umbraco HQ. In this short article, we’re going to cover these and what they mean for UK businesses.
1. Price updates for 2026 announced
Umbraco has recently announced its annual price rises for 2026 for core Umbraco products and all the individual add-ons. As you would expect, Umbraco will be informing all customers individually how this will impact their billing for 2026.
As an open-source CMS and considering what can now be achieved, Umbraco remains exceptional value for money. The pricing is also refreshingly transparent – you get a list of the old prices and the new prices all in one place, with everything covered. In the CMS and DXP world there can be a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to pricing, but not with Umbraco.
However, we think there might be one typo on the announcement as the “Standard dedicated 1” band package for Umbraco Cloud with Dedicated Resources appears to be rising from £235 to £350 per month or £2350 to £3360 annual, which is completely out of line with the level of other price rises indicated.
2. New Umbraco UK office
The UK has a vibrant Umbraco professional community and is a key market for Umbraco HQ, with a strong partner network including 3chillies, and a growing base of enterprise clients including a number in the public sector.
Umbraco HQ’s commitment to extending and strengthening its presence in the UK market is reflected by the opening of a new UK office in Bristol and the appointment of a number of support roles including a UK and Ireland Manager, and a UK Enterprise Partner manager. The opening of the UK office won’t impact our customers directly but is another signal for a bright future for Umbraco in the UK. It also provides confidence to UK enterprises investing in Umbraco that that is a good choice of CMS for the longer term.
3. New minority investors in Umbraco
Another indication that we should be confident in the long-term future of Umbraco and its prospects for future growth is the September announcement that majority stakeholder Monterro has sold a minority stake to three new investors – Bonnier Capital, Alcur Founder and Grenspecialisten. Monterro remains the majority shareholder.
This not only indicates investor confidence in the prospects for Umbraco, but the press release also confirms the platform continues to have recurring annual revenue growth of over 30%.
4. AI comes to Umbraco via the Umbraco MCP Server
One of the key announcements at Codegarden was the launch of the Umbraco MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server, which enables developers to plug in LLMs and AI services like Claude into an Umbraco project, based on the new MCP standard which has been developed by Anthropic.
In September Umbraco announced the beta release of the Umbraco MCP Server. Using the MCP Server should allow teams to deploy AI in their Umbraco environment, for example enabling prompts to create content within Umbraco or using AI to support dynamic pricing in Umbraco Commerce. Initially, the MCP Server does not cover OpenAI’s LLMs.
According to Umbraco, the beta release “significantly expands AI capabilities with full support for document versioning, template development, and asset management” while fully respecting Umbraco’s underlying permission model. Eventually the full 1.0 release will include a wider range of capabilities such as parity with the Umbraco CMS management API in areas where it makes sense.
