Optimizely update: new rebrand, AI agent capabilities and more

Optimizely is one of the three core Content Management Systems (CMS) we focus on, along with Sitecore and Umbraco. Increasingly powered by AI, Optimizely is a powerful option for enterprises looking to manage their digital experiences and entire footprint from one platform.

The last time we covered Optimizely on the blog was back in October 2025 when the annual Opticon event focused on Optimizely’s new native AI agent capabilities. Since then, Optimizely has been steadily building up its AI capabilities, while also working behind the scenes on a striking new rebrand which was unveiled in June.

In this post we’re going to explore what’s been happening in the Optimizely world in the last few months.

Analysts still recognise Optimizely as a leader

It’s certainly a competitive market out there, but Optimizely is still one of the leading Content Management Systems (CMSs) and Digital Experience Platforms (DXPs), a position which continues to be acknowledged by the leading analyst houses.
In February Gartner recognised Optimizely as a “leader” in the Magic Quadrant for Personalisation Engines and in April also as a leader in the Magic Quadrant for Content Marketing Platforms. In Q4 2025, Forrester declared Optimizely as a Leader in the Forrester Wave for Digital Experience Platforms.

Launch of new rebrand

But competition in the market is also keeping the leading CMS and DXP providers on their toes who want to defend their market position. In June, Optimizely launched a complete rebrand, with a bold new visual design that admittedly takes some getting used to and is quite distinct from its competitors.  Framed around a “growth” concept with a new bright green logo and the occasional use of green lettering with a distinctively retro feel, Optimizely SVP of Marketing, Tara Corey comments
“We are introducing a new brand that reflects who we’ve become: the AI platform for marketing and digital teams. The new brand is designed to better represent our progress and the innovation happening every day.”
This rebranding is pretty bold and to be honest it’s likely to have a “Marmite” reaction – you’re either going to love it or hate it – but it absolutely grabs your attention. Perhaps most importantly, it signals that Optimizely is distinct and that the product has changed considerably; we think this will help to tackle any lingering market perceptions that the platform is just an optimisation tool.
Unsurprisingly, AI capabilities are also highlighted.  The “Optimizely One” branding introduced in 2023 that emphasised an integrated platform has been joined by product positioning strongly focused on agentic AI, with the platfom now presented as consisting of three main offerings: an agent platform, an agentic CMS and agentic experimentation. Whether the Optimizely One branding of the platform gets quietly dropped remains to be seen.
The rebrand won’t necessarily impact existing customers, although it will touch the platform, with Corey adding “You will see a new look across the product, starting with our logo and navigation. Same workflows, same integrations, same settings. Now with a fresh identity that finally reflects how far we've come.”

New AEO capabilities

We recently wrote on the blog about Sitecore’s June acquisition of Scrunch which will bring an agent experience platform and AI search monitoring into the Sitecore platform.  Exactly one week after the Sitecore announcement, Optimizely announced a new partnership with Conductor, a leading AEO platform which will bring AI traffic data, GEO and AEO insights, and agent data directly into the Optimizely platform and dashboard views.
Additionally, Optimizely also announced new “Agent Visibility Analytics” capabilities, positioning both pieces of new as the launch of a “full AEO platform.” These new analytics show how agents are interacting with your content, and can be sliced and diced on various criteria.
AEO and GEO are now critical for organisations so the introduction of the partnership and the new analytics capability make sense. The partnership with Conductor also seems like a pragmatic way to incorporate these features more quickly into the Optimizely platform, although it remains to be seen if Optimizely will ultimately acquire a company like Sitecore or develop their own capabilities further down the line.

Continuing evolution of AI features

The new AEO capabilities announced in June are just the latest steps in an active product roadmap that continues to add AI features and capabilities. Over the past few months, Optimizely Opal (positioned as an “agent orchestration platform”) has introduced new elements, announced via a regular monthly blog update.

These improvements fall into three main categories:

  • The extension of connectors via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to enable teams to integrate a wider set of AI services and agents into Optimizely, culminating with a new “Add Remote MCP” feature that allows teams to integrate any remote MCP server into Optimizely.
  • Increasing emphasis on governance that supports the building of agents and the wider use of AI, including a new Agent Builder and Skills Builder to configure agents through the Opal chat interface, as well elements such as additional workflows to keep “humans in the loop” and even some additional data residency options.
  • A raft of new AI agents that support AEO, GEO, optimization and experimentation, including agents for SEO Meta Optimization, FAQ Creation, GEO Scheme Optimization, Variation Development, Competitive Webpage Analysis and more.
We can fully expect this roadmap to continue, possibly with more improvements to round out the “full AEO platform”.

The AI-powered changes to the Optimizely platform are extensive and rapid, and we think they will continue to evolve at pace in the coming months through Optimizely Opal’s product roadmap. This is clearly the direction of the market for enterprise solutions, and it is good to see Optimizely active. Some of these announcements will be particularly impactful, including the partnership with Conductor and the Add Remote MCP server.  However, realistically it is still likely that many digital marketing teams are not quite ready for these more advanced AI features.
Within the context of the change in the platform, the rebranding also makes sense. How successful this will be remains to be seen, but it signals that the platform has evolved.
